Fringe Benefits

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008 at 10:06 am

We’ve all been writing a lot about the fresh take on hippie looks we’ve been seeing this Spring, but fringe is one of my favorite elements of it. Nothing says “I’d rather be at a rock festival with all my tan friends” better.

Top left, Nicole Miller, on sale at Bluefly for $149.99, here.

Top middle, detail from On the Fringe bag, Free People, $348.

Top right, $225, Custom by Levy. Before you wave your hand and say “never heard of it,” Custom by Levy has taken orders from Cher (the all-time queen of fringe), Molly Sims, and Rebecca Romijn. Available here.

Bottom right, bead and chain fringe necklace, $38, Urban Outfitters. Available here.
Bottom left, Philip Lim 3.1 $395, available here. (There’s also a really cute $195 t-shirt version of this here.)

This flat sandal from Urban Outfitters, at $28, is by far my favorite. I think I’m going to buy them. I found plenty of $200 takes on this shoe, but why not save the money? Beers can be on you this weekend. Available here.

The Jackie-O Dress from Black Halo is a timeless, elegant, curve flattering flattering piece that looks good on any body type. This cut of the dress is versatile enough for work and cocktail hour, and the slim patent leather belt at the waist will give you an hourglass shape. It’s no wonder then why this dress has been on seen on the red carpet by several Hollywood stars including Kim Kardashian (not pictured below), Kelly Ripa, Jenny McCarthy, and Ana Ortiz.

Warning: Graphic Content Below

If I see another “Gettin’ Lucky in Kentucky” tee, I’ll freak out. I do love graphic tees, but there’s fun, original ways to wear them that I’d love to see more often. These examples are all $30 and under and there’s visual interest, but no slogans or brand logos to be seen.

If you’re feeling like taking a risk one day (difficulty: jeans not allowed), pair a tee like these with a patterned skirt and a pair of gladiator heels, or put one under a strappy dress with a feather-light scarf.

Top left, $22, Headphone tank by Junkprints. Available here.
Top middle, Rubber Bands t-shirt by Elastico, $30. Available here. Top right, What Makes It Go tee by Dan Rule at Threadless, on sale for $9! Available here. Bottom right, Lucha Workshop, Monstero scoop neck, $26, available here.
Bottom left, Wings of Steel tee by Magic Outlaw $29.95, available here.
