Glimpse Into The Future: Antonio Beradri’s “Heel-Less Shoe”

Sunday, March 30th, 2008 at 9:08 am

ab

I’m not sure what’s going on in designer’s heads anymore. Couture shoes used to be about elegance with a twist, but the goal now is to create the weirdest, impossible to walk in shoe on the market – frankly, I’m half-expecting one of these designers to bring back foot-binding, & then find out that 3 or 4 celebrities are trying it.

The latest version of ‘must haves’ are these $3600 5+ inch heel-less platforms by British designer Antonio Beradri who was quoted as saying, “it is like walking on your toes.” I’d tell you to walk on your toes & save $3600, but what do I know? Victoria Beckham has already purchased a pair, while Uma Thurman and Gwyneth Paltrow opted for the ‘discount’ $2200 version in patent.

As for the future … looking into my crystal ball I see several ‘AS SEEN ON’ & ‘WHO WORE IT BETTER’ blurbs in multiple style & celebrity magazines, to be be followed in early-to-mid ’09 with slightly toned down versions by contemporary designers – it will look lovely with the signature Louboutin-Red where the heel should be – which will be followed up by an onslaught of replicas at Aldo, Forever 21 & LuLu’s for $25-$100 a pop, along with dodgy-originals creating bidding wars on eBay by early ‘10.

So laugh away now – I know I am – but when you start seeing multiple versions of this theme popping up all around you, at least you’ll have been warned.

Fashion Finds: Eva Longoria

Generally the outfits celebrities wear — & I covet — cost more than my monthly cable, cell phone, electric & gas bills combined, which leaves me with an interesting choice — luckily, I have a credit-limit on my Visa that stops me when I make the wrong one. Which is why Eva Longoria’s denim sundress with a handcrafted elephant buckle by Voom by Joy Han for $158 is a rare find … it’s an affordable splurge!

As for the bag … lets just say ‘not so affordable‘. But you can get this similar Tote in Faux-Croco with Metallic Finish from Newport-News for only $25!

And, if you want a slight twist to the bag, try Lulu’s Multi-Colored Faux-Snakeprint for $48

Mango Tango: Laptop Bags with Personality

Sunday, March 30th, 2008 at 9:05 am

After following some sage INO advice on upgrading to a “Non Ugly Laptop Bag” for work, I realized I also needed a serious upgrade on my computer travel bag.

Right now I’m working with an aluminum Zero, which is possibly the most indestructible case available, but dragging – & I do mean dragging – it along on holiday feels like you’re bringing your best friend, in full-on goth-dress, to a beach party … you really want them there with you, but wish they would just lighten up already.

Thankfully Mango Tango has answered my prayers & introduced their “Laptop Bags with Personality” line of durable computer bags in fun designs, different materials, tons of colors … & excellent pricing! My 2 favorites are:

The Faux-Croc Patent Laptop Case with double 25.5″ straps, 2 way opening zip on top, pockets for tickets, passports (or paperwork), lined in signature satin with padding & elastic straps to secure the laptop. It also has a unique organizer for cell phones, adaptors & other ‘forget-me-nots’ for the road. It’s available in blue, red, camel & black at Luggage Online for $53.95.

And the Poly-Brocade Laptop Case with double 25.5″ straps, 2 way opening zip on top, an external front pocket, & is also lined in signature satin with padding & elastic straps to secure the laptop. It has a unique organizer for cell phones, adaptors & other ‘forget-me-nots’ for the road & is available in TURQUOISE , BLACK MULTI , RED, or PINK from Luggage Online for $85.95-$89.95.
