Road Test on Spring Vests

I’ve been looking for a shrunken, Kate-Moss-style vest in a lighter fabric for spring and summer- something to act as a counterpart to all the sugar-sweet sundresses out there. I don’t think the suit broadcloths and shiny satins the winter versions came in looked right with clothes for the new season.

Most of the summery cotton versions I had found didn’t look right either- they were too cheap-looking to get away with repeat wearing or they were patterned.

After trudging through a zillion high-end stores I found the perfect vest (for me) at Gap and two close runner-ups at Armani Exchange and Old Navy.

Left, Gap, $49.50, available here. The fit is a bit more slouchy and lean than on the model and SUPER adjustable in the back- just what i was looking for. The look in person is crinkled and slightly mussed.

Middle, Old Navy, $24.50, available here. I liked the clean, light-tan color and if I were going for preppy and structured, this would have definitely been my pick. The cut is the most slimming of the three, available up to XXL, and also comes in black.

Right, Armani Exchange, $78, available here. This was definitely the sexiest of the three and great for hemming in a blousy dress or top. It had the shortest length, so if you’re looking for a super-cropped shape this could be it.

I’ve never worn a vest, but your description of #1 totally sells me!!!

Can I wear it with a tank, cigarette jeans & flats … or will that be too cliche?

@eryin: not too cliche in my opinion, just perfect :)

I really like the cut of the armani exchange vest, I’d prefer it in light-tan though
